Useless Stuff

Just saw Rango the other day, and hats off to ILM and the geniuses who made this movie possible.  We are currently besieged by CGI and full length animations from right and left but Rango will cause anyone to do a double take once they see the jaw dropping stuff that makes up the movie.  Outstanding detail, ultra stylized creatures (the rattlesnake with a gun instead of a rattle, and whatever the hell type of creature Spooner? is), stunning water effects and plays on lighting so dramatic and brilliant you jaw may close only after the movie ends.  Yes, its that good! Anyway in a sea of disposable animation fare, this really stands out and hopefully will pave the way for much more good stuff from ILM in future. Technorati Tags: movies , animation , cgi

  The song of course is one of the better ones of the past century.  Written by Prince, the lyrics are powerful and raw and sound as good today as they did all those years ago.  I love big fancy videos which ooze visual artistry and creativity (michel gondry, spike jonze, hype williams) but the video here is perfect due to its very simplicity.  When you have such a powerful performance from O’ Connor, anything else would simply be distracting.    Nothing Compares 2 U video

Every now and then, you get something totally unexpected on youtube which you just have to keep a note of somewhere.  Below video is a wonderful example of such serendipity. I was looking at a “Think Different” video where someone had taken the famous images and put in a rather familiar background music which I recognized as being from the movie “Amelie”.  Looking through the comments I found out the name and a quick search revealed this video.  Not only is the music timeless here as it is anywhere else, but it seems to keep up with the visuals so well, you could swear it was meant for it. Long story short, great usage of the music in this short video!
