Useless Stuff

As is the case every year, another year is gone and seems to have disappeared even faster than the previous year.  Often we think where did the time go, and what did I actually do?  Well thanks to the magic of digital photographs, we have a way to document some of the happier times of the year.   Oct 9, 2010 – Spent a good portion of the day at the KL Bird Park and Butterfly Park.  Here are some more pics from the day.   Neither a bird nor a butterfly me thinks. Great colors nonetheless.                        Great Greenery at the Butterfly Park.    

Although the butterfly park in Kuala Lumpur is somewhat overshadowed by KL Bird Park, it is a great place to visit in its own right.  The close vicinity to Bird Park means that both can easily be visited in the same day.  Below photo was taken at the Butterfly Park and is definitely one of my favorite pictures of the year.  Photo taken on 9th October, 2010.

  Another year comes to an end.  Same as every year, this one seemed to end even faster than the last.  Will create a best of 2010 photos sometime later, but here are just some of my many favorites of the year:     NO cars, no jams, Uttara can be a great place to walk around in on special days such as this…..   Ahh, the gritty b/w look courtesy of CS5.  Pabna 2010.     Little Ilano…..   Although taken in b/w, this was also tweaked in CS5.  Great shot of Pepper.   Happy Ma and Baba on Radiv’s Graduation day.   Another pic from Rad’s graduation day.   Bhutan, 2010. Great trip, and was a great beginning to the year as well. 

So there we were, October 7, 2010, Kaniz and I were about to embark on our longest trip both in terms of days as well as kilometers.  We had been planning on visiting Australia for a while and this seemed to be the right time.  As we would be going via KL, we decided to spend some time in KL as well. So this is what it came down to: Dhaka to KL – 2,579 kilometers.  KL to Melbourne – 6,360 kilometers. Melbourne to Sydney – 713 kilometers. Sydney to Gold Coast – 686 kilometers. Sydney to Canberra – 285 kilometers. So you take all that and multiply by 2 to get the combined travel that we did and you come up with a grand total of 21,246 kilometers in 17 days or 1250 kilometers per day on average…..   Overall, it really was a fantastic trip.  The fact that our time helped us maximize our time more effectively than would otherwise be the case.      Day 2, KL Bird Park.  (2,579km).

Chennai Crocodile and Snake Farm.   Taken on March 9, 2010.  About an hour away from heart of Chennai, the farm should definitely be visited as there are literally hundreds of crocodiles here.  Much smaller number of snakes, and a few turtles there for good measure as well.

After going to Chennai in July 2009, which was rather unexpected, wasn't really sure if I would be able to manage a trip to Thailand as I had originally planned.  Luckily that was the time I was in between jobs, with my new job still 2 weeks away so I knew I would not get a better time for such a trip.  As it turned out, the trip was great!  We went to Phuket, visited the Phi Phi Islands, and spend a couple of days in Bangkok towards the end as well.  Well deserved break, and wonderful vacation! A sight to behold - the bluer than blue waters in Phuket. Keep Reading, MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

On 20th of June, 2010, I became an uncle for the second time.  Here are some of the pictures of him in the first few days. Here is one of him with Kaniz.  He needed a lot of sun, so these were taken on the roof which he really enjoyed.

On the way to some of the islands near Phuket.  Taken on Sep 21, 2009.  Tried to make a poster like pic with CS3. As blue as the waters were, they weren't this blue.

Chennai shoreline as seen from high above. Taken on Mar 5, 2010. Was lucky to get a really clear view.

So there was this new restaurant in Uttara and we all went to check it out. Although the food was actually pretty good, the one thing that wasn't was the crab (seen to the right). Yeah it looks pretty good here, but trust me it wasn't. Unfortunately the restaurant moved to Banani soon after, guess it wasn't doing much business here. click on the pic to get a really really uncomfortably closer view.

On the Way to Tiger's Nest (Bhutan). Taken on Feb 21, 2010.  Going up to the restaurant is about a 1 and a half hour trek, and took this picture of Kaniz and the son of our tour guide during one of our rest stops.
