Photo of the Day

Image
This picture was taken on October 31, 2008 at the Padma Resort.  The resort is very nice especially for a half day visit as we did.  As can be seen the resort is on stilts and in the rainy season, it would be a nice view with the water right beneath your feet. Taken with my W300 and then a little b/w conversion was done in CS3 with some color kept for effect.   Kaniz and Ilana stand out at Padma Resort

What am I listening to?

VH1 has made a difference, now I actually look for songs to play on my computer again, after a long while away from all new music. Here's what I listened to today: 21 guns - Green Day Right round - flo rida Empire state of mind - jay z with alicia keys Use somebody - kings of leon Somewhere out there - our lady peace Black Black heart - david usher Girl all the bad guys want - bowling for soup. Wise up - aimee mann.   Until the day I die - forgot the name of the band To be fair, only the first 4 are fairly new and I first heard them on VH1, others are pretty old but still good to hear.

I took this photo of Kaniz  on Feb 1, 2009.  It was the day of the Ijtema, so a holiday for us and we went walking around Uttara.  Taken with my Sony W300 and b/w was done in CS3 with a liberal boost in contrast as well. Nice Nostalgic Look

I took this picture at the Nilgiri Resort in Bandarban on March 26, 2009.  Love how much sky is in the shot. Up in the clouds at Nilgiri

Just like everyone else, my collection of photos is growing at a tremendous pace, so have decided to post a random picture each day so I can have some of my favourite pics available at one location. So here we go.  This picture of Kaniz was taken on Sep 12, 2008 at Sylhet at my aunt Seema's place.  The backdrop was too good to miss.

The Final Destination 3D

The latest Final Destination movie plays out exactly the same as the others and by now there is absolutely no sense of surprise or anything.  Predictable as it was, the 3D aspect makes it more enjoyable and although it is used fairly sparsely, often it is used to good effect.  Cannot imagine watching it on a normal theater let alone on DVD, but with 3D and all its not bad.  The setups are as expected quite elaborate, though I liked the ones in part 2 better.  I hope this is the end of the series, as really its time has come.  The first 2 are definitely enjoyable, and the last two are nowhere near as bad as most horror movies out there.  The series must qualify as a big success with 4 movies in 9 years.  Only other series that comes to mind is of course the hugely successful Saw series and really the SAW movies have no comparison - 6 movies in 6 years?? All in all, would give The Final Destination a decent 5.5/10!

5 Must Have Applications for Any PC (and FREE to boot)

Looking over some of my most commonly used applications, its clear that I use a lot of free applications.  Its amazing how many excellent tools and applications are available completely free!  So I decided to jot down 5 must have applications that I would really be lost without. These 5 applications really should be on any PC as they are extremely good at what they do, don't take up any space and of course are completely free.  So here they are in no particular order:

Getting Ready for Thailand 2009!

6 days in Phuket and Bangkok Must admit quite excited about going to Bangkok and Phuket next week.  Have been planning this for a while and only got the tickets and visas ready.  Plan to visit a lot of beaches, go to Phi Phi and neighbouring islands if possible and of course catch a movie in Bangkok as well.  It goes without saying that I will be taking my trusty Sony W300 as well and plan to take a boatload of pictures as well. Note to self: take extra memory card and of course the charger!

Election Day 2008

Image
Voting for the first time! On December 29, 2008, I went with my wife and brother to go vote in the election.  In previous elections, I was out of the country so this would be my first time voting, quite an exciting prospect. As there were hardly any cars around and all the streets were empty, we decided to take a nice long walk around the neighborhood. The normally busy streets were completely empty.  It was an amazing sight indeed!

Nepal 2008

Image
First trip to Nepal. (January 2008) The wife and I had a really great time in Nepal, we stayed in Kathmandu and also went to Dhulikel for a night.  Although a short trip, it was really enjoyable due to the scenic beauty, the friendly and hospitable people and the good food.  Especially nice was the High View Resort in Dhulikhel which gave us plenty of opportunity to roam around the hills and had a nice feeling of being completely isolated from the world.  Loved Thamel in Kathmandu, where you can find hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars and everything in between.  Word of warning though: shopkeepers will give wildly exaggerated prices, so bargain like you have never bargained before! View from the resort at Dhulikhel

Memorable Photos

Am glad I found this photo.  I took this with my trusty Sony Ericsson K750 back in August 2006 just moments after regaining consciousness.  I had dislocated my thumb and this was at the hospital right after the doctors "located" it back.  Don't even remember why I felt compelled to take a picture immediately but happy i did.
